Zhaoyi Yan received his Ph.D. in Management Studies from IE Business School in June 2025. He joined the Faculty of Business for Science & Technology, School of Management at the University of Science and Technology of China as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Organization & Human Resources beginning from September 2025. His research revolves around two primary streams. One devoted to understanding gender and career success, including the drivers of gender promotion gaps, job mobility outcomes, and the unintended consequences of diversity and equality practices aimed at reducing gender wage disparities. Another devoted to understanding the influence of corporate leaders’ backgrounds—particularly their demographic minority status and career trajectory—on their strategic decision-making. His work has been published in Human Resource Management (USA).
He has presented his research at major international conferences, including the Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting, the EGOS Colloquium, the Society for Business Ethics (SBE) Annual Meeting, and the Strategic Management Society (SMS) Annual Conference. His dissertation was recognized in the AOM Best Paper Proceedings and received the Society for Business Ethics’ Emerging Scholar and Founders’ Award. He has also earned reviewer awards from the Academy of Management, including the Best Reviewer award from the Organizational Behavior (OB) Division and the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) Award from the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Division. Additionally, he serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the Strategic Management Journal, Management and Organization Review. He is also an early-career researcher reviewer for Human Resource Management, and Journal of Occupational and Organizatioanl Psychology.
